AnOtHEr TyPHoOn iN taIWaN

I scanned through the headline news in Taiwan on the internet today, and I saw that there's going to be a typhoon called "龍王" passing through on Friday. Following paragraph is quoted from the website of The China Post:

New typhoon expected on weekend: CWB

The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) suggested yesterday that people in Taiwan come up with alternative recreational programs if they had mapped out outdoor plans for the weekend.

The center of Longwang (King Dragon), named after the god of water and rain in Chinese mythology, was about 873 km (543 miles) east-southeast of Naha on Japan's Okinawa island chain at 9 a.m. local time Thursday, the Pacific regional Joint Typhoon Warning Center said, in the latest advisory on its Web site.

The bureau will decide later today if to issue a sea warning around Taiwan, depending on the new weather development.

The weather here in Terre Haute is getting colder. The highest temperature today was 64 °F, which is less than 20 °C. I'm so glad that I only have one class today. Although the weather is cold, we can always use hot water in the restrooms. The restrooms in the States, no matter if it's a public restroom or not, they all have hot water coming out from the taps. It's really different from the ones we have in Taiwan. In public restrooms, expect for some of restaurants, it's nearly impossible to have hot water. And it seems that they also have hot water to use in Japanen. This makes me curious about the reason why we don't get to use hot water in public restrooms in Taiwan.

If you happen to know it, please tell me what was going on.

As title, I'm going to have lots of things to do in the following weeks before midterm exam. I supposed to have two tests on this Friday, a presentation with a Korean mom next Wednesday, aslo on the same day, I'll have to hand in a summary and response for others' presentation. After that, some projects of mine are due at the end of October. Although we have three days off for Fall break, I don't think I will have the time to go out and play (sounds a little bit childish though). Can't take it too easy, otherwise, I'm going to be far behind with my studies.

Anyway, wish me luck, folks. Hope everything's fine in Taiwan.

I just knew that the national storytelling festival in Tennessee is going to be held on Oct. 7-9. I heard of the festival when I was a senior in college, and the professor described the festival as if it's the most interesting event in the world. For more information about the festival, you may click on the title to link to it.

Actually, I'm pretty interested in storytelling. I took the class in my last semester of college. It was a tough class, I remembered that there were only 7 people who took the course. Not so many people have the guts to challenge. Eventually, I conquered it, and fortunately, I got a rather nice score for it.

We had a Fall Break on Oct. 7, and the following two days will be weekends. Thus, I'm going to have three days off that week. I'd really like to go to the festival, however, as I mentioned before, it's going to be our Midterm Exam two weeks after. So, the festival might come to an end without my participation. Well, I still have one more chance for it next year. I'm going to have all the things done before I go to the festival next year!

a RaINy dAy

It rained quite heavily today, and actually it rained all day long, non stop. But this didn't stop me from going to the gymnasium to play sports today. The gym we have on campus is pretty nice. We get to play a variety of sports, like basket ball, table tennis, badminton, indoor rock climbing, and we also have a swimming pool. I haven't tried the swimming pool yet, but since I have my swimming suit with me, I will do it sometime in the future. And we can borrow all the equipments for the sports we want to play without any fee. That's indeed the most important point.

This Friday I played badminton with other Taiwanese people, and since then I've been suffering from serious muscle pain on my hips. However, I still insisted to play today. I think I'm a little bit fatter than I was in Taiwan. I know I'm really enjoying myself here, but I don't want my face to be so round. I'll try to watch myself, and go on a diet or something.

Another thing I'd like to mention is that we're going to have our MIDTERM EXAMS two weeks after now. Me and my classmates are starting to form study groups. Anyway, wish me luck, guys.

無題

There was a Korean MTV I saw when I was a junior in college. It just poped into my mind today, and I tried to find if there's any website I can link to see it. So this is what I found. Just try to click on the titile "無題", and you would be able to watch it.

It was pretty touching. Don't understand the lyrics of the song though. But I think the plot itself is already quite heart-stirring. It would be splendid if there's someone who's willing to do something like that for me. This reminds me of the proverb that goes "Affection is blind reason".

cHeCK thIs OuT

I'd like to share something I read in the text book of my Language Acquisition class. It's a dialogue between two four-year-old boys. It's noted that they were walking around pretending to be robots:
  1. I'm a missile robot who can shoot missiles out of my fingers. I can shoot them out of everywhere--even out of my legs. I'm a missile robot.

  2. (tauntingly) No, you're a fart robot.

  1. (protestingly) No, I'm a missile robot.

  2. No, you're a fart robot.

  1. (hurt, almost in tears) No, B!

  2. (recognizing that A is upset) And I'm a poo-poo robot.

  1. (in a good spirits again) I'm a pee-pee robot.

It's really splendid for a boy at the age of four to notice other people's emotion. When child B recognized that child A was getting upset, he began to make fun of himself so that he could make child A feel better. And amazingly, child A felt better, he even tried to response to what child B said in harmony.

I bet they're going to be successful sales men in the future. At least I think they're talented in socializing.

I'm so interested in socialinguistics that I think I'm definitely going to write my thesis in this area .

At last......
I have a blog of my own. I still have lots of things to learn, such as editing this blog and posting my pictures. I hope I will be able to take down every joyful moment of mine, to share them with you, and to know that you're also having the same feeling as I do.
